Portuguese Guitar

  • Guitars of Lisbon

The history of the Portuguese guitar dates back to the 19th century, when it began to gain popularity on the streets of Lisbon and other cities in Portugal.

  • Guitars of Coimbra

Popularized by Carlos Paredes, the Coimbra guitar differs from the Lisbon version in that it has a lower range, a distinct timbre and a nominal tuning, which maintains characteristics of Renaissance zithers.

Fado Guitars

  • Fado Guitars

Viola de Fado, a musical instrument very similar to the classical guitar, but with six steel strings. Alongside the Portuguese guitar, it is defined in its specificity as one of the main instruments of Fado.

  • Traditional Guitars

Portuguese violas are a set of musical instruments from Portugal, all different from each other but closely related. They are an example of the musical richness and diversity of our country: although similar to each other, each one of them has its own personality, which defines its region.

  • Cavaquinhos

The cavaquinho (father of other models such as the braguinha, braga, machete, machetinho or machete-de-braga) is a stringed musical instrument (cordophone) originating from the Portuguese province of Minho, which was later widely introduced into the popular culture of Braga by the Biscayan nobles, from where it was later taken to other regions, such as: Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Hawaii and Madeira.
It is formed by a hollow and flat body, in the shape of an eight, it has an arm that has frets that makes it a tempered instrument composed of four strings (metal, gut or synthetic materials such as nylon, nylgut, fluorocarbon) Staff."
